Can I create a website by myself?
Can I create a website by myself?
Yes, today it is possible to create a website on your own. Modern website builders and platforms offer ready-made templates and visual tools that do not require code. For a simple site, like a showcase or a personal page, a few days of work can be enough.
The limit comes with more complex things: SEO positioning, speed, security, contact management, e-commerce or custom features. In those cases a professional makes the difference in terms of results and time saved. The choice depends on your goals and budget.

What it really takes to build a site on your own
The minimum ingredients are four: a domain (€10-30 per year), hosting space or a platform that includes it (€15-40 per month for no-code builders), content (texts and photos) and the time to assemble everything. With visual builders the technical part is simplified, but it does not disappear: page structure, basic SEO settings, mobile versions and links all still need care.
As for time, be realistic: for a beginner, a simple showcase website easily takes 20-40 hours of trials, errors and tweaks. Not impossible hours, but they have to come out of the time of someone who already works.
The limits of DIY: where self-service stops
Builders are designed to make a site appear, not to make it found and make it convert. SEO positioning requires settings that pre-packaged templates often restrict; speed depends on the platform and cannot be fully optimized; features like bookings, member areas, integrations with management tools or advanced e-commerce quickly hit the ceiling of what is offered.
Then there is design: a template used by thousands of other sites does not help you stand out, and truly customizing it requires skills that are not included in the monthly fee.
When DIY makes sense (and when it does not)
It makes sense when the site has a simple goal: an informational showcase, a contact page, a personal or temporary project. In that case DIY is legitimate and quick, and costs stay at a few euros per month.
It does not make sense when the site has to generate customers: if the website is your main sales tool, every point of slowness, confusion or absence from Google has a cost in revenue. At that point the calculation flips: the professional is not an expense, they are what makes everything else pay off.
The hidden costs of DIY
The platform subscription is just the start: premium themes and plugins, email marketing tools, stock photography often pile on, and above all the hours of work. Then comes the least visible cost of all: a site that exists but brings no leads, because it is not optimized to be found or to convert.
In many cases DIY ends in a half-finished project that a professional has to rebuild a few months later, with double cost and months lost. Before starting on your own, it is worth asking how far you really want to go.
