WordPress: flexible and widespread

Limits emerge with growth: advanced SEO and complex features are constrained to what the platform offers, the site is not easily movable elsewhere and the fee is paid forever. They are a good entry door, rarely a final home.

For projects with particular needs (maximum performance, unique features, large volumes of content) custom technologies are used: modern frameworks like Astro or Next.js, static site generators, dedicated web applications. Astro in particular is now among the favorite choices for content-rich sites, like blogs and business websites, because it generates extremely lightweight and fast pages. These are the fastest and most secure solutions of all, and the freest in terms of ownership.

The price matches: developing them requires specific skills and costs start at a few thousand euros. For a serious e-commerce or a portal, though, it is often the choice that pays off the most over time.

Vibe coding: websites built by describing them to AI

It is the approach made possible by artificial intelligence: instead of writing code, you describe what you want to tools like Cursor, v0, Claude or Lovable, and the AI generates pages and features. For prototypes, quick landing pages and personal projects it is surprisingly effective: in a few hours you can get results that once took weeks.

It has a clear prerequisite, though: it takes a technical foundation. Without development skills you cannot evaluate the code the AI produces, connect domain and hosting, take care of security and performance, or step in when something breaks. Vibe coding is an accelerator for those who already have technical basics, not a shortcut for those who do not: for a professional website the options described above remain the valid ones.

The criteria for choosing the right platform

The questions to ask are five: what the site's goal is (showing, selling, managing); who will maintain it over time; how important Google ranking is; how much it will have to grow; and what budget is available, not just today but over the next few years.

A practical rule: if the site is central to the business, better flexible platforms (WordPress or custom) managed well; if it is a digital business card, a no-code builder is more than enough. When doubt remains, a technical consultation costs little compared to the wrong project.
